2017 ATPA Diesel Truck Pulling Rules

Street Work, Street Modified, Unlimited Classes are paid to 3rd place only

 

**ATTENTION FIRST TIME PULLERS**

1.       Please be at the track 2 hours prior for sign up and Tech.

2.       All pullers must be at the drivers meeting, you will not be permitted to pull if you miss the meeting!

3.       If possible, a weight slip would be beneficial.

4.       No loose material in the box. Everything must be removed or secured to the bed, including ballast and fuel tanks.

5.       Fuel slip tanks must be empty.

6.       Absolutely no NOS or Propane bottles permitted. Bottles must be removed.

 

Stock Diesel: Daily-driven, on the road pickup trucks (full bodied diesel pickup trucks). Valid DOT registration and license plates are mandatory. Turbo Chargers must be OEM Stock. Not Eligible for payouts.

 

Local Diesel: First time pull, Daily-driven, on the road pickup trucks (full bodied diesel pickup trucks). Valid DOT registration and license plates are mandatory can have OEM, limited to one or two turbos maximum. These Trucks are not eligible for payouts. This is a one pull grace class, returning trucks will be classed and must pass tech for that class.


Weight breaks

8500 lbs. Weight is with driver.

 

REGULATIONS

 

All ATPA General Rules Apply 

Ballast:
Hanging weight, and ballast in box is not permitted.

Batteries:

The batteries must be securely mounted in the stock location. They may not be located in the driver compartment.

 

Body:

The body must be the OEM truck body, including the full bed floor. The body must retain full sheet metal. After-market hoods are permitted. Commercially available flat decks are permitted. Boxes and Flat decks must be clean and free of debris. Trucks with fuel tanks and sled decks will be up to tech discretion.

 

Brakes:

Four-wheel hydraulic brakes are mandatory.

 

Chassis:

The OEM chassis is mandatory. Maximum of 1 ton truck chassis only allowed. The engine must be in the OEM location for the body used. The vehicle must retain the full OEM chassis. Wheel tubs, back-half conversions, tube chassis, etc., are prohibited.

 

Cooling System:

Radiators must be in the stock location and be of at least stock size.

 

Credentials:

All drivers must have a valid driver’s license.

 

Driveline:

An OEM transmission and transfer case as manufactured is mandatory.

 

Driver Restraint System:

The OEM restraint system is mandatory and must be worn.

 

Electronic Tuning:

Aftermarket box tuner, downloader, custom tuning allowed

 

Engine:

The engine is limited to a stock-appearing, OEM make-specific compression ignition engine.
 

Exhaust:
Exhaust must exit upwards, hood stacks & fender stacks are permitted, and conventional exhaust must use a slip on 45° or 90°. First time pullers get a 1 event grace.

 

Fire Extinguisher System:

A fire extinguisher is recommended. It must be securely mounted.

 

Firewall:

The complete OEM firewall is mandatory.

 

Floor:

The complete OEM floor pan is mandatory.

 

Fuel:

The fuel must be pump #1/#2 diesel only. Soy/Biodiesel fuel is permitted. Off-road diesel fuel is prohibited.

 

Fuel Delivery:

Stock: Upgraded injectors, Dual CP3 & HPOP are prohibited.  Fuel Injection system must be stock for the year make model of truck. CP3 Pumps with “Bag of Parts” upgrades permitted. P7100 pumps with fuel plate upgrades permitted.

Local: Upgraded injectors & pumps allowed.

 

Fuel System:

The OEM fuel system is mandatory and must be used. Racing fuel cells are prohibited and must be removed from the vehicle. Aftermarket lift pumps are permitted.

 

Hitch:

The hitch must be a receiver style hitch attached to the frame; reinforcements are permitted. Trick hitches are prohibited. The hooking point must be the rear-most point on the vehicle and must be rearward of the stock location of the tailgate. The hitch must be horizontal to the ground and stationary in all directions. Bumpers may be notched or removed. The hitch’s height from the ground may not exceed 26 inches. The hooking point must have a minimum 3.00 inch inside diameter opening for the sled hook. The hooking point will be measured to the center of the clevis loop.

 

Interior:

A complete interior, including dashboard, door panels, etc., is mandatory. Aftermarket seats are permitted; they must be fully upholstered. All factory controls (lights, signals, horn, windows, wipers, etc.) must be retained and be operative.

 

Nitrous Oxide:

Nitrous oxide is prohibited. No other oxygen extenders are allowed. Bottles must be removed from truck.

 

Propane:

Propane is prohibited. Bottles must be removed from truck.

 

Rear End:

The rear end must be the model supplied with the vehicle as manufactured.

 

Steering:

The vehicle must retain the full, original OEM steering gear.

 

Street Equipment:

Complete headlight, taillight, and back up light assemblies (all) are mandatory and must be operative. Complete OEM windshield and windows are mandatory. Windows must be operative per factory specifications; that is, they must open and close via OEM electrical or mechanical means.

 

Suspension, Front:

An OEM-style suspension is mandatory. Lowering or raising the vehicle height with suspension modifications is permitted. Traction bars and devices are permitted; they must be bolt-on only; welds are permitted for attachment to frame or axle housing. Control arms may be strengthened or replaced, provided all original mounting points are retained. Strut tower braces, lower tie bars, sway bars, limit straps, and camber kits are permitted.

 

Suspension, Rear:

An OEM-style suspension is mandatory. Lowering or raising the vehicle height with suspension modifications is permitted. Traction bars and devices are permitted; they must be bolt-on only; welds are permitted for attachment to frame or axle housing. Control arms may be strengthened or replaced, provided all original mounting points are retained. Strut tower braces, lower tie bars, sway bars, limit straps, and camber kits are permitted. Suspension stops are allowed.

(air bags with onboard compressor must be disconnected)

 

Tires:

The tires must be DOT street tires. Cut tires are prohibited.  Non OEM dual rear wheel trucks are allowed to have dual rear wheels.

 

Tow Vehicles:

Tow vehicles are prohibited.

 

Transfer Case:

Non-OEM transfer cases are prohibited. The transfer case must be the model supplied with the vehicle as manufactured.

 

Transmission, Automatic:

Non-OEM transmissions are prohibited.  OEM transmissions with upgraded internals permitted.  Transmission brakes are prohibited. Any non-OEM floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter must be equipped with a spring-loaded positive reverse lockout device to prevent the shifter from accidentally being put into reverse gear. A functional neutral safety switch is mandatory. All transmission lines must be metallic or high-pressure-type hose.

 

Transmission, Manual:

Non-OEM transmissions are prohibited.  OEM transmissions with upgraded internals permitted.  All transmissions must be clutch-assisted.

 

Turbocharger:

Stock: The turbocharger is limited to stock, OEM make-specific charger only.

Local: Two turbo configuration maximum.

 

Water Injection:

Water injection is permitted.  Alcohol, methanol and all other flammables prohibited.

 

Wheelbase:

The vehicle must retain the original factory wheelbase and track width.

Street Work Diesel

Street Diesel class is designed for full bodied diesel pickup trucks, Valid DOT registration and license plates are mandatory. Turbo Charger may be up to 2.5” (63.5mm) Inducer size.

Weight breaks
8500 lbs. Weight is with driver.

REGULATIONS

All ATPA General Rules Apply

Ballast:
Hanging weight may not extend past 60 inches from the centerline of the front axle. Weights must be securely attached to the vehicle.

Batteries:
The batteries must be securely mounted in the stock location. They may not be located in the driver compartment.

Body:
The body must be the OEM truck body, including the full bed floor. The body must retain full sheet metal. After-market hoods are permitted.  Commercially available flat decks are permitted.  Modification of the body for any weight savings is prohibited.

Brakes:
Four-wheel hydraulic brakes are mandatory.

Chassis:
The OEM chassis is mandatory. Maximum of 1 ton truck chassis only allowed. The engine must be in the OEM location for the body used. The vehicle must retain the full OEM chassis. Wheel tubs, back-half conversions, tube chassis, etc., are prohibited.

Cooling System:
Radiators must be in the stock location and be of at least stock size.

Credentials:
All drivers must have a valid driver’s license.

Driveline:
An OEM transmission and transfer case is mandatory. They must have been an option on a one-ton or smaller pickup.

Driveshaft Loops:

All trucks must have at least six inch wide u-joint shields around the rear u-joint constructed of at least 1/4 inch steel or 3/8 inch aluminum that will safely contain the u-joint and the end of the rear shaft. All shields must be securely mounted to the vehicle. Any front shaft u-joint that is visible from the side of the truck must be shielded to contain the u-joint and the end of the shaft. One event grace allowed.

 

Driver Restraint System:
The OEM restraint system is mandatory and must be worn.

Engine:
The engine is limited to a stock appearing. Engines can be interchanged between Dodge, Ford and GM as long as they came in a 1 ton truck or less from the factory. No billet blocks allowed. Aftermarket intake manifolds, electric fans and water pumps are allowed.

Exhaust:
Exhaust must exit upwards, hood stacks & fender stacks are permitted, and conventional exhaust must use a slip on 45° or 90°. First time pullers get a 1 event grace.

Fire Extinguisher System:
A fire extinguisher is recommended. It must be securely mounted.

The complete OEM firewall is mandatory.

The complete OEM floor pan is mandatory.

Fuel Injection Pump:
Maximum of one P7100 pump limited to one plunger per cylinder (Sigma pumps prohibited).  The use of multiple high-pressure common-rail fuel pumps is acceptable.  Power stroke engines with a single factory turbo may use a second HPOP.  Upgraded Injectors are permitted.

Fuel System:
The OEM fuel system is mandatory and must be used. Racing fuel cells are prohibited and must be removed from the vehicle.  Aftermarket Lift Pumps are permitted

Control arms may be strengthened or replaced, provided all original mounting points are retained. Strut tower braces, lower tie bars, sway bars, limit straps, and camber kits are permitted.  All front suspensions must use at least one working shock absorber per wheel.

 

Suspension, Rear:
An OEM-style suspension is mandatory. Suspension may use removable blocks.  No travel is necessary.  Traction bars and devices are permitted; they must be bolt-on only; welds are permitted for attachment to frame or axle housing. Control arms may be strengthened or replaced, provided all original mounting points are retained. Strut tower braces, lower tie bars, sway bars, limit straps, and camber kits are permitted. All rear suspensions must use at least one working shock absorber per wheel.

Tires:
The tires must be DOT street tires. Cut tires are prohibited.  Non OEM dual rear wheel trucks are allowed to have dual rear wheels.

Tow vehicles are prohibited.

The turbocharger is limited to one single stock turbo, or an aftermarket, off the shelf available charger with a compressor inducer no larger than 2.5” (63.5mm).  Custom pulling chargers will be bumped to Street Modified. Bushed/Clipped chargers prohibited.

Water Injection:
Water injection is permitted.  Alcohol, methanol and all other flammable injectable prohibited.

Wheelbase:
The vehicle must retain the original factory wheelbase and track width.

Street Modified Diesel

Modified Street trucks with large single chargers or street compound systems.

 

Weight breaks – Weight is with driver
Single Turbo: 8000 lbs.

Compound: 8500 lbs. No Hanging weights, no ballast in box

REGULATIONS

All ATPA General Rules Apply

Ballast:
Single Turbo: Hanging weight may not extend past 60 inches from the centerline of the front axle. Weights must be securely attached to the vehicle.

Compound: NO HANGING WEIGHTS, NO BALLAST IN BOX Trucks with aftermarket front bumpers, winches, fuel tanks, and sled decks will be up to tech discretion.

 

Batteries:
The batteries must be securely mounted and if moved from stock location contained in an approved battery box.  They may not be located in the driver compartment.

Body:
The body must be the OEM body design, including the full bed floor. The body must retain full sheet metal. After-market hoods are permitted. Truck beds must be clean and free of debris. 300 pounds of ballast must be added over the back axle for trucks without factory bed floor.

 

Brakes:
Four-wheel hydraulic brakes are mandatory.

 

Chassis:
The OEM chassis is mandatory. Maximum of 1 ton truck chassis only allowed. The engine must be in the OEM location for the body used. The vehicle must retain the full OEM chassis. Wheel tubs, back-half conversions, tube chassis, etc., are prohibited.

 

Cooling System:

Radiators must be securely mounted in the vehicle.  The radiator need not be in the original mounting location.  An overflow tank must be plumbed to the radiator.

 

Credentials:
All drivers must have a valid driver’s license.

Driveline:
An OEM transmission and transfer case is mandatory. They must have been an option on a one-ton or smaller pickup.

 

Driveshaft Loops:

All trucks must have at least six inch wide u-joint shields around the rear u-joint constructed of at least 1/4 inch steel or 3/8 inch aluminum that will safely contain the u-joint and the end of the rear shaft. All shields must be securely mounted to the vehicle. Any front shaft u-joint that is visible from the side of the truck must be shielded to contain the u-joint and the end of the shaft.

 

Driver Restraint System:
The OEM restraint system is mandatory and must be worn. SFI approved 4 or 5 point harnesses permitted.

 

Engine:
The engine is limited to a stock appearing. Engines can be interchanged between Dodge, Ford and GM as long as they came in a 1 ton truck or less from the factory. No billet blocks allowed. Aftermarket intake manifolds, electric fans and water pumps are allowed.

 

Exhaust:
Exhaust must exit upwards, hood stacks & fender stacks are permitted, and conventional exhaust must use a slip on 45 or 90°. Cross bolts must be installed in all exhaust systems as close to the turbo charger as possible and be a minimum of 3/8” in diameter. First time pullers get a 1 event grace.

 

Fire Extinguisher System:
A fire extinguisher is mandatory. It must be securely mounted.

The complete OEM firewall is mandatory.

Floor:
The complete OEM floor pan is mandatory.

Tires:
Must be D.O.T. approved tire. Maximum tire height 35” no studded tires or chains. No alteration to tires allowed. No bar or terra tires. Dual rear wheels are permitted front dual prohibited. Cut tires are prohibited. 102” Max outside tire to outside tire.

 

Tow Vehicles:
Tow vehicles are prohibited.

 

Transfer Case:
Non-OEM transfer cases are prohibited. The transfer case must be an OEM transfer case from a 1 ton or smaller truck.

 

Transmission, Automatic:
Non-OEM transmissions are prohibited. Transmissions can be interchanged between Dodge, Ford and GM as long as they came in a 1 ton truck or less from the factory. Aftermarket torque converters, valve bodies and internal components are permitted. Transmission brakes are prohibited. Any non-OEM floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter must be equipped with a spring-loaded positive reverse lockout device to prevent the shifter from accidentally being put into reverse gear. A functional neutral safety switch is mandatory. All transmission lines must be metallic or high-pressure-type hose.

Transmission, Manual:
Non-OEM transmissions are prohibited. Transmissions can be interchanged between Dodge, Ford and GM as long as they came in a 1 ton truck or less from the factory. OEM transmissions with upgraded internals permitted.  All transmissions must be clutch-assisted. Sequential shifters are prohibited.

Turbocharger:

Single Turbos:

SX/GTX Model Limited to a 3.2” (82mm) inducer bore single turbocharger. Bushed and/or clipped turbo chargers are prohibited.

SX-E Model Limited to a 3.0” (76mm) inducer bore single turbocharger. Bushed and/or clipped turbo chargers are prohibited.

Custom Pulling Turbos: Limited to a 2.6” inducer bore single turbocharger. The compressor wheel must protrude into a 2.6” bore for 1/8”. The inlet will be measured using a 2.605 inch plug the plug must not be able to enter the inducer bore. A stock map width enhancement (MWE) groove must be inside neck area where intake cover is measured. No MWE groove will be allowed that has a width greater than .200”.

All provisions allowing air into the wheel other than via the bore and the MWE groove are prohibited.

**PPL and NHRDA are switching to a 3.0 smooth bore inlet housing design turbo for the 2.6 class in 2016.  This configuration will be allowed to participate in the current 2.6 class.  If running this configuration of turbo, the complete specifications are as follows: “The turbocharger is smooth faced (No MWE grove) intake housing, limited to a 3.0” intake opening. Intake wheel must protrude 1/8” inside of the opening.

Compound Turbos: Limited to two stage configuration only.  Inducer bore on the atmospheric compressor housing may be no larger than 3.2” (82mm) SX/GTX Turbos & 3.0” (76mm) on SXE Turbos. Bushed and/or clipped turbo chargers are prohibited.

 

Water Injection:
Water injection is permitted.  Alcohol, methanol and all other flammables prohibited.

 

Wheelbase:
Purpose built pulling chassis must not exceed 158” wheelbase.  Unmodified chassis must be of original length.

Unlimited Diesel

Purpose built pulling trucks.

Weight breaks:
8500 lbs. Weight is with driver.

REGULATIONS

All ATPA General Rules Apply

Ballast:
Ballast is permitted. Hanging weights may not extend more than 60 inches from the centerline of the front axle. Weights in bed must be mounted securely. No weights in driver compartment.

Batteries:
The batteries must be securely mounted and if moved from stock location contained in an approved battery box. They may not be located in the driver compartment.

Body:
The body may be any 3/4- or 1-ton full-size pickup truck body.

Brakes:
Four-wheel hydraulic brakes are mandatory.

Chassis:
Tube chassis are permitted.

Cooling System:
Radiators must be securely mounted in the vehicle.  The radiator need not be in the original mounting location.  An overflow tank must be plumbed to the radiator.

Credentials:
All drivers must have a valid driver’s license.

Driveline:
Racing or aftermarket transmissions, transfer cases and front and rear ends are permitted. All trucks must have u-joint shields at all joints.

Driver Restraint System:
The OEM restraint system is mandatory and must be worn snugly.

Engine:
The engine is restricted to 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder compression ignition engines.  Billet Blocks permitted.

 

Exhaust:
All vehicles must be equipped to direct exhaust upward. Two 3/8 inch diameter bolts must be placed in the exhaust pipe in a cross pattern within one inch of each other as close to the final turbo as is practical.
Fire Extinguisher:
A fire extinguisher is mandatory. It must be securely mounted within reach of the driver.

 

Floor:
The complete OEM firewall is mandatory

Fuel:
The fuel must be pump #1 or #2 diesel only. Soy/Biodiesel fuel is permitted.

Hitch:
The hitch must be constructed of solid material that is properly attached and braced. The hooking point must be at least 44 inches rearward from the centerline of the rear axle. The hitch must be horizontal to the ground and stationary in all directions. The hitch’s height from the ground may not exceed 26 inches. The hooking point must have a minimum 3.00 inch inside diameter opening for the sled hook. The hooking point will be measured to the center of the clevis loop.

Master Cut-off:
A sled- and driver-operated spring-loaded emergency air shut off is recommended. The cable must terminate into a two inch diameter steel ring.

Nitrous Oxide:
Nitrous oxide is prohibited. All other oxygen extenders are prohibited. All bottles and tanks MUST be removed from the truck and all lines must be capped at the solenoid(s).

Propane:
Propane is prohibited. All bottles and tanks MUST be removed from the truck and all lines must be capped at the solenoid(s).

Rear End:
Non OEM rear ends permitted.

Suspension, Front:
Non OEM front suspensions allowed.  Air suspension is permitted, but the compressor must be disconnected and any active or onboard control must be disabled.

Suspension, Rear:
Non OEM rear suspensions allowed.  Air suspension is permitted, but the compressor must be disconnected and any active or onboard control must be disabled.

Tires:
Cut tires allowed, maximum of 4 tires.

DOT tire maximum height 35”. Maximum of 6 tires, Dual rear tires allowed, front duals prohibited.

Turbocharger:
Unlimited turbocharger configuration. Large single, compound, triple, etc.

Water Injection:
Water injection is allowed. Alcohol, methanol, and all other flammables are prohibited.

Wheelbase:
Purpose built pulling chassis must not exceed 158” wheelbase.  Unmodified chassis, must be of original length.
